Witch Doctors, Blue. I have skated for 3 years straight with them on a variety of surfaces and they are still a delicious balance between grip and speed.
Just an update: I finally settled on the red Fugitives. I was trying to stay away from nylon hubs because of the recommended weight (under 135 lbs), plus I hear stories of the hubs giving way on curvier girls. However, after fighting with all the specifications I ended up with nylons anyway. Fugitives are supposed to have the same compound as Flat-Outs, so I'll let you guys know what's up.
I also just purchased fugitives. I bought 4 gray pushers and 4 pink for outside. We played our first scrimmage on Sunday and I used them and I could tell a HUGE difference. I didn't feel like they slowed me down at all! I'm so happy I made the purchase. I read that the aluminum hubs were more for the "lighter" skater (which I am not). I hope your happy with your red fugis.
from what i understand, it's the other way around... the aluminium hubs are better for heavier skaters. won't buckle under pressure. the nylon hubs can actually end up making your wheels behave like a lower durometer rating, ie 93s might be more like a 92 or even 91, with weight on them.
A really sweet and affordable choice are the Anabolix Chameleon II they have just arrived and are available only through the Anabolix Skate Co. site at the moment. Craig put alot of time into ensuring these wheels came out round, with great grip and roll. The best part is... they're only $50! They're worth twice the price and they look like cherries for the skates!
Ah the poplular wheel choice topic. Man, I have been skating for close to a year and I'm still trying to figure this out. We skate on polished concrete. I'm about 115 lbs and mostly jam. I have yet to be able to feel good control on the corners. Currently I skate with flat outs on the inside and black fugis on on the outside. Tried all flat outs and felt too slow. All fugitives too slick. I don't want to spend a lot of money on wheels that don't work for me, but I just don't feel that I am on the best for me. It sucks.
The Anabolix look like something worth trying out that won't bust the bank. Might give it a go.
I've heard lots of people praising the Mojos lately too.
Too many freaking choices!
Have you tried adjusting your action pins? If your actions are too tight/too loose, the wheels won't matter much. I'd say before you shell out more money for wheels, try adjusting your actions and see if that helps at all.
It's all personal preference. I keep mine pretty tight in comparison to my teammates. It's a lot of give and take. The looser they are, the tighter you can make turns and a lot of girls feel that they have more control, but you also lose some of your momentum. Tighter actions require less energy, but you also lose some of the control in turns.
I don't know how you have your actions set now, but I'd say the next time you're at practice, adjust them one way or the other and take a few laps and try a few hard, fast turns to see how they feel. From there, if it feels better or worse, adjust accordingly.
thanks! I'll mess around with them. Right now, when jamming, I tend to lose it on the corners via sliding out. When blocking I have very little issues, it's more when I'm going all out.
