So I have Pro-Tec pads and I need some Ideas on how to clean them, some girls on my team do the vinigar thing, which I'm not a fan of the smell. I need some ideas, I looked on their site found nothing, looked online, and so forth.. I need some Ideas!!!
I fill up my washing machine with detergent then let them sit in there overnight. then run them on a gentle cycle and they come out pretty nice, then i hang them to dry.. seems to work pretty well for me and doesnt tear them up.
i usually wash mine on gentle cycle in the washing machine with the water on low, but the large load amount of washing detergent. I use the febreeze detergent. I then let them air dry.
I try to let mine air dry after every practice now. I didn't at first. The smell got so bad that my teammates told me that if I didn't wash them then I would not be allowed back on the floor. So washed, put in the dryer for a bit and then hung up. Seemed to do the trick.
Add some Borax to your load in addition to the detergent, that will help. If you can, I've been told letting them air dry in the sun will help, too. Also, to help keep the stink at bay I always wear arm sleeves under my elbow pads and wrist guards. I know they sell them but I just cut a thumb hole and another large hole for the rest of my fingers out of an old pair of black dress socks. I've also started wearing my gaskets under my knee pads so that helps with them.
I keep a travel size bottle of ferbreze in my skate bag to keep my pads fresh in-between washings. Air drying before you throw them in your bag helps a lot too!
My ritual is after every use I air them out over night and then the last practice before a bout I wash them on warm cycle then let air dry. Make sure you strap them up so the velcro doesnt get all nasty. This has worked very well for me but I noticed there is something extra funky about wrist guards, they stink the most if your not on it!
I've heard some people throw them in the dishwasher (with no dishes of course) and I have done the vinegar thing myself. I also have thrown mine in the washing machine on the gentle/shortest cycle with cold water. Some people say it destroys the padding faster but I just can't stand smelling like vinegar or pad stink.
I have the same pads they stank so bad... So I sprayed them with simple green let them sit 10 min. then washed in cold water on the easy cycle. Then I laid them out to dry in the sun. It worked like a charm. Good luck !
Hi ladies,
Nothing works better than throwing them in the laundry (cold) with plain old-fashioned bleach. It kills all the germs that cause the stink. It has not faded my pads at all. Just be sure to close up the velcro to itself or everything will stick together.
