Roller Derby Awareness

Hahah...Derby awareness. As most of us on this message board day dream of derby at any opportunity, it's hard to believe that some people actually need a little derby demo to understand the game. Outside of your head, derby is still unknown to lots of potential spectators. That is why my league, The Cajun Rollergirls, decided to offer derby demonstration days to our local schools and summer day camps. (Girls P.E. class in particular.) The benefits are numerous with recruitment of young fans being the first and foremost. Further, they will go home and talk to their parents about what they saw at school- so now they've got a ride to the bout. From there, who knows who the parents will tell. So you can see that the effect of derby demo days are far reaching. Unfortunately, these demos usually must take place during regular business hours which causes difficulty for some of your league members to attend. In this case, I have created a power point presentation. The power point will allow you to explain the game of derby to a younger audience even if you only have a small amount of members at the demo. Please be warned that you should accompany this power point with verbal explanations of your own. I created it to target an elementary school audience so if you use it on an older crowd, you may choose to go into further detail. Also be advised that I created this presentation with my league in mind. This means that The Cajun Rollergirls' name is all over the presentation, along with other local leagues. You may choose not to show the final slide to your local spectators as it showcases our websites. Other than that, you may feel free to utilize this presentation to the gain of your league...or you may create one of your own that fits the personality of your league.

I love that idea. I talked to a little girl I know after she saw one of our bouts and she was so excited and full of questions about it. Admittedly I struggled a little on how to explain it to her but tried my best regardless. Great job for coming up with that!
