I have a new favorite big girl, Whiskey Soured from Detroits, Moter City Disessembly Line! She's a hard hitter and has awesome footwork, that girl can skate!
She is also one of the extras in Whip It coming out this fall! Go Michiganders!
This question begats another interesting question: What IS "larger than life?" From observation, I believe a lot of times this question is viewed through a common lens, one that non-derby women are compared with. Not to ask anyone to get out a scale, but I can honestly say I see very rare a skater as big as me (5'9, 275-280 pounds), much less any competing in the top of their respective regions. I could very well be wrong, and I truly hope I am, because I'm always on the lookout.
Well Slay, I'm like 325 BUT am having lots of issues the worst of which is endurance! Thats why I admire plush rollergirls so much because I myself am having such issues!
My coach has posted some awesome you-tube footage of Beyonslay on our league's derby forum, she's amazing!
As one of the bigger girls in our Australian league (5"11, 233 pounds) I must say my endurance is holding me back a little also but week by week it's getting better and each time we do the endurance timing (20 minutes of 2 minutes sprint with 30 second rolling) I'm less sore and tired. :)
I'm 5'6" and 235, and an asthmatic to boot. One thing that is stopping me from being a triple threat is my endurance. My proudest moment was when I did 5 laps in under 50 seconds, just 4 months after a nasty motorcycle accident.
Unfortunately I have yet to find a bigger girl who is my roll model, though after playing against Stella Storm, I have to say I admire her a great deal.
