there's no reason your bearings should have a life-span. i am skating on the same bearing that i used for speed skating 10 years ago, and they are still in great condition. to clean them, i use mineral spirits. you just pop the shield off, shake t...
I don't clean my bearings.
I tried a few times with the varsol and the margarine carton shaking them around and then using the sewing machine oil some other lubricant, but I just find it's too messy for me.
I have been using only sealed bearings...
i'd say it varies per skater. as a speed skater, i clean a couple sets before every meet (about once a month). i'm a little more lazy when it comes to my derby bearings since you can't reach the same speeds, it's not as much of an issue. i know pl...

- Oooooh U2! I'm jealous! Haha, OK well the officers are in the process of making sure it's alright for us to skate outside the rink so I'll keep you updated. And, it's coffee in that cup, lol. That's actually a photo of me having breakfast in New Orleans. :)

- Oooh! You might get to skate with the regular Houston Roller Derby League on Wednesday night, instead of the Rec League on Tuesday. One of our officers is checking to make sure it's OK. I'll let you know!

- Oooh...bad timing, doll! We practice every Tuesday at 7:30 p.m., but our Oct. 13 practice has been canceled because the rink was rented out for a birthday party. HOWEVER, we might be doing land drills in the parking lot - it just needs to get okayed by the rink first.
A lot of us skate on Thursday nights, since it's the rink's cheapskate night ($3 admission). The rink is located at 1820 S. Dairy Ashford Houston, Texas 77077. Visit www.skatedarr.com for maps, etc. If I find out more solid info for that Tuesday I'll be sure to let you know. We'd love to have you join!
