Thanks for this suggestion. I have seriously thought about doing this, but haven't for financial reasons and because I wasn't really sure if they could do anything. Will you let me know how yours turn out?
Have you taken them to a cobbler? A professional cobbler may not be a skate expert, but they are show experts and may be able to help you out! I just got some new skates that are way too tight and I have having the local cobbler work on them a bit...

We call that the 'can opener' for some reason. Great block as long as you keep your head out of the way and don't hit the person you're blocking with your helmet (has happened at our practices. Ow!)

Add some Borax to your load in addition to the detergent, that will help. If you can, I've been told letting them air dry in the sun will help, too. Also, to help keep the stink at bay I always wear arm sleeves under my elbow pads and wrist guards...

- Thanks for the link. I just opened up the heel counter on my skates and then tried another lacing configuration and they do feel better. Hard to tell for sure until I skate in them at practice, but for now they feel better!
