Derby Nation

My original goal date to be bouting will come and go this weekend without my being on skates.

Skate-or-Bust, ROSI’s big weekend breast cancer benefit affair is only 4 days away. I am excited but in a bittersweet way.

When I first started skating I made a goal to be ready to skate by the July 11 bout. So now that date is going to come and go without my being ready.
I am okay with not meeting this goal. I have come a long way and that is the thing to remember. My skills are just about where they should be, and my endurance is good…minus my breathing.
I just can’t seem to get my breathing under control. With just a little bit of exertion, my lungs feel tight and it is hard to catch my breath. When that happens I guess I start hyperventilating which leads to nausea.

Please go read the rest at my blog:

P.S. (I read the rest of the blog and think you've got the right idea) You SHOULD be proud! Your derby sisters that are able to skate must surely appreciate your assistance in other aspects of the event. They couldn't do their thing without you helping out as well! One day someone will return the favor to you too, I'm sure of it.

Three things that I believe have assisted immensely in breath control:
1.) Playing the sax (not feasible to everyone I know.)
2.) Swimming laps (like a text book example of the Front crawl, not a modified version. 1 mile as often as possible.)
3.) Kundalini Yoga (although I'm sure other forms of yoga could also help.)
