DNN's "DERBY 101" Needs YOU!

Derby News Network is producing “DERBY 101”, a web series on the sport of modern roller derby. We’re hoping to have the first installment out by the end of September.

For the show open, we need your help! There are two things we’d like, to give proper repping to the derby community:

We need your league logos, preferably in a size that will stand up to Hi Def eventually (1920x1080 pixels). You know the end of “Hell on Wheels”? Where they have the league logos being slapped on the league’s location on a US Map? Well, we have permission to use that map and add to it,and we’ll make our own for the other parts of the world. Later versions will be in High Def.

We also need a 2-5 second clip of the best, penalty free, in-game footage that you think best represents your league’s killer competitiveness in the blink of an eye. This will be used in a fast clips montage.

Please include your derby name, league name, your league contact information, and your league’s official city/state (you’d be surprised how not obvious that is sometimes). I’ll reply with technical specs for submissions.

We’re very excited about this project, and time is really critical. All materials really need to be submitted yesterday, but realistically we need to have the logos and clips in hand by next Friday,September 11.

If we don’t get it by then, we can’t include it.

Derby 101 Opening Specifications

All files: Logos and Videos
· Naming Convention: Please name your files with the following naming convention: LeagueName_City-State.psd (or tif, tga, bmp, eps, avi, mov, mp4, etc). For leagues outside the US, please you may have to improvise with all the different location conventions, but it would be something like Leaguename_City-State-Country.psd (etc).
· Example: AshCityRollerDerby_Pasadena-CA.psd; GoldersGreenDerbyGirls_London-England.avi. Whatever we need to find you on a map.
This makes it much easier to figure out whose logo or video it is that we’re looking at, and opens the possibility for automation in the case of logos and placing them on the map.

League Logos:
· 1920 x 1280 pixels or thereabouts preferred (depending on your art aspect ratio of course). If your artwork is smaller than that, please do not scale up or resize.
· Uncompressed image format preferred, 24 bits per pixel. TIF, TGA or BMP would be the preferred formats, but we’ll also take EPS and PSD. If you only have compressed formats like JPG (which seems to be fine for black and white logos), do not convert. We’ll take what you have, but we want as close to the created source format as possible.

If you do not have a video clip, we still want your logo!

Video clips:
· Please submit one clip only. It must be an “action shot”, and the action must be legal under WFTDA 4.0 rules (flat track) or “Battle On the Bank” rules (banked track).
· The shot should be no shorter than 2 seconds in length, and no longer than 5 seconds.
· Preferred format is AVCHD, uncompressed AVI or MOV (Quicktime). We will accept mp4 (H264) if the compression bandwidth is greater than 2 megabits per second for NTSC (720x486) or 4 megabits per second for HD (equal to or greater than 1280x720).
· The minimum preferred resolution is 720x486 (standard TV definition). Clips that are smaller may be accepted, but if they are, there will be no possibility of them being displayed full screen.

Submission:
· Logos and videos should be submitted as an email attachment, in two separate emails.
· Submissions must be received no later than 5pm, Friday, September 11, 2009.
· There is no guaranty that we can include every video submission, but since the montage is very fast clips, we probably will.
· All video submissions will be edited. The end result will be very short, just enough to glimpse the best action. we need the clips to be slightly longer than that action, to give space for proper editing.
