Dreams are often swept aside for real life. Especially the hopes, dreams and ambitions of the young. As we “grow up” we are somehow convinced that the hopes and dreams we once harbored, no matter their hold on our hearts, are best forgotten.

I have always had a flare for the dramatic, which is probably why I found myself drawn to the theatre and music. I sang, no performed, for anyone who would listen and watch as I was a kid. People always told me about my “beautiful voice.” For this reason, I grew up thinking I had a beautiful voice.


I still think I do.


By the time I got to high school, I had a burning desire to be a part of the school musicals. I had been in several as a child extra over the years, so once I reached high school age I thought it would be my time to shine. The problem with putting your own abilities up on a pedestal like I did is there is always going to be someone else out there better than you to shatter your self-images.


I always wanted a lead role in a musical, or a supporting lead (those are usually my favorites). By the end of my high school years, that dream had not been realized. By then I was already trying to put it aside for things more realistic.
